The Nis
University Faculty of Medicine, established in 1960, is the
government-owned institution of higher learning offering undergraduate,
postgraduate and specialist programs in medicine (for international
students), dentistry and pharmacy. Within the period of 40 years, the Nis
University Faculty of Medicine has achieved significant results in medical
sciences research and the education of doctors of medicine and
stomatology, and thus has proved one of the most prestigious academic
institutions in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Our graduates are
presently working in the most reputable research institutions and
universities worldwide.
Process of
education -
The Nis University Faculty of Medicine offers programs in
medicine and stomatology taught in either Serbian or English for students
who have just graduated from high schools. All classes are held in Nis at
the main campus. The programs are so designed as to provide the
educational experience and thorough training in basic science and clinical
subjects that will help students acquire the knowledge and skills
necessary for competent doctors. Over 2,500 students are currently
enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Nis in
undergraduate, postgraduate and specialist programs. The teaching hospital
with 2,000 beds is fully equipped to train students in all required areas
of medicine and stomatology.
Facilities

Among the facilities available at the
Faculty is the Faculty Library. It is available to undergraduates,
postgraduates, the Faculty teaching staff, researches and doctors of
medicine and stomatology in all medical fields, not only from the city of
Nis but also from a wider region of Serbia. The Library fund is over
22,000 books. For the last few years the Library fund has been enriched
with 40 packages of books and journals due to international donors, i.e.,
professors from The Harvard University School of Medicine. The Library is
subscribed to 93 international periodicals in the field of medicine and
stomatology. The Library users are most satisfied with the services
offered. The INTERNET connection and the Local Administration Network make
it possible for all users a fast and efficient web-search for the
information, thus helping them stay informed about the latest achievements
in medical sciences worldwide.
